blogging … is supposed to be an avenue for destressing and serves as an ideal “notice board” to post one’s comments, opinions and daily rants and narrations. unlike a written diary, blogging allows one to share his views with others, particularly close friends. but unfortunately, unless one locks his blog (which may also prove to be ineffective, as seen in a recent event), outsiders can also easily access the website, and some will be offended by the -gasp- questionable statements made by the blogger, even if they are usually of harmless intent.
first there’s a scholar who almost ended up in trouble for his casual remarks that have racist undertones, and then there’re two guys who allegedly made defamatory comments regarding an organization. both had to make official apologies after that. i would like to point out that the organization’s chairman did make mildly insulting remarks (on a certain group of degree holders) a few years back that are.. though based on truth, rather stinging and exaggerated. however, it is directed at a group of people, and not a personal attack, and so that, of course, is not wrong at all, as compared to personal attacks.
sigh… another rude awakening for me since last week: blogging is in cyberspace and the law applies.
not all hope is lost though. the law roughly states that if one posts constructive opinions that are not purely baseless personal attacks, he or she is generally safe from legal action. it is easy to say, but sometimes bloggers, being human, tend to cross the boundaries a little, especially during strong emotional periods, me being guilty of it several times. and then there’s the grey area regarding “baseless”, “personal” and “attacks”.
it’s weird huh, even with the government stressing the people to speak up, there’s still so much implications that follow. be it the blogging incidents, or the banning of a supposed politically-motivated short movie about an opposition member and the list goes on. one must really watch his back with what he says and writes.
whatever the case, putting up narrative posts is the safest option for blogging. yep. here goes.. i had yet another fun but meaningless weekend, what with the ktv and double-o sessions. i consider it a celebration to the knowledge that my college life (and working life after that) is going to be fun and not as stressful as it could have been.
(checked.. nope, never made any baseless personal remarks. phew!)

five out of the six interviewers told me straight in the face that Life Sciences is more suitable for me. that’s a nicer way of letting me know the final verdict in advance.
of coz i will still appeal, but if that doesn’t work (which is most of the case), hell i already know i’m rejected for a good reason. the course simply is not for me. i used to have this idealistic belief that as long as you 1) like science and have a strong background, 2) like to help people and 3) be able to give your best, you will be very deserving of the place. but of course, that’s obviously not the case. there’s a most important trait that i’m lacking. i was even disillusioned for a while. but who knows, 20 years down the road i may look back and be glad that i haven’t taken the road more travelled.
