it was a nua weekend all the way.
after giving tuition to my cousin yesterday afternoon, went to the newly-opened “The Cathay” with shiqing, dezhi and a friend of his, to watch “New World”. The Cathay building is sleek and nice, much better than the old one (which i’ve never been to but have seen photos of).
we were discussing if people will actually flock over to Cathay for movies since there is already a PS near the doby ghaut mrt, and the main way to reach cathay is via mrt to doby ghaut, and that the only outstanding feature of the Cathay is the screening of various exclusive indies shows at the picturehouse @ lvl 6. probably they will, considering the number of sold out art shows i saw yesterday. and things will probably be even better when shopping centres are constructed at lvls 1 to 4.
new world sucks though. (but still better than ‘date movie’. sorry, honey.
) sq and i were counting down at abt 1 hr before the show ended in 10 minute intervals which really seemed like half an hour periods. it has good reviews, but… not for casual goers like me.
too bloody slow and boring.
after which, went to dynasty ktv pub which is situated just beside “the cathay” with a humungous bunch of prev meddies and ex-prev meddies. 10 of us in total. it was really quite nice, even though a lot of us didn’t sing much. several interesting points to note.. richie captivated everyone with his superb vocals; guojie reluctantly (but successfully) took on various britney spears and madonna songs (wahahah!); poor jiahao couldn’t seem to find an ideal song for him; bobby and his “exotic” choice of hokkien song which eventually turned out to be one we all knew; david, jeff and i amused ourselves with the mindless hai dai moves which no one else cared; liwei and i (as usual) tried to imitate jay chou’s fast numbers, but in vain; kelvin, being mike-shy as usual, generously passed the mike to everyone else but himself; beng engrossed himself in liverpool v everton.
supper came after that, before we went home.
celebrated grandfather’s birthday today, at a restaurant in Joo Chiat. we were initially quite annoyed with it’s inaccessibility, and the fact that it’s situated right in the midst of those lap sup pubs. (just when my dad was cursing the people over there and commenting on how sleazy the place is, i realised i visited one of those before!) the food was okae-ish, but i couldn’t wait to leave the place actually. was seated in a table with the rest of my cousins, who spent the whole night talking about ’superstar idol’ which i never even watched before. -_- either that, or on really inappropriate conversation topics. i was so glad when dessert was served.
just like that, the weekend has passed. still thinking of what to do (or NOT to do) during my post-ord-pre-enrolment period.
