speaking of judgmental people…

i was just posting this question which i have been really trying to think and crack my head on but haven’t found a clue to what the answer is on Yahoo! Answers – Homework Help section, which i initially thought would be a good place to post my doubts.

What is sin x + sin 2x + sin 3x + … + sin nx?
It has something to do with DeMoivre’s Theorem but I’m not sure even how to begin. Can anyone who knows give a hint on how to solve it? Answers are not essential, just the process to get the answer.. Thanks.

Sounds reasonable right? And I got this reply…

sinx = DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK. some advice your textbook has all the answers so stop being lazy and figure it out for yourself so you can actually get somewhere in life after school FOOL.

hmm…. maybe i should just stick to my uni forums.

so what if singapore is too small for us to have any “road trips”…. we can always enjoy an improvised version otherwise known as “food trips”. i just had one yesterday. as we understand that our body has a “feast and famine” cycle, our “food trips” catered specifically to this. here is our itinerary for the trip yesterday, with andre and shiqing taking turns as drivers and yz and andre taking turns being v com aka map reader:

1) frogs leg porridge at chinatown
2) got lost. (famine period)
3) laksa at alexandra
4) got lost on the way to NUS to fetch me (wasn’t with them until this point… no thanks to my classes)
5) nasi lemak at fang xing behind NUS
6) got lost again for a long time (because we had a heavy meal at fang xing… so must take a longer time to digest)
7) serangoon chomp chomp seafood 8) got lost again.
9) beach road chilli crab pasta
10) got lost again again.
11) thomson prata

nice hur!

after which the rest went to zouk mambo while i had to go back home, no thanks to my classes. it was quite an expensive food trip but it’s pretty damn creative and interesting, isn’t it LOL.

whee first day of school. doesn’t seem too bad, apart from a really amusing (not intended on his part) materials science lecturer, who ought to be given credit for his effort, but his pronunciation (he’s one of the many PRC lecturers in engine fac) is … to say the least, *quite* hard to understand.

let’s make a guess on what he means when he says the following:

“materials. types of materials include metals that can be used to make your crocolile soft drink can.”
“to go to the base dimension we have to see the air thumbs. and the air thumbic structure.”
“tutorials do not start on the second week, but on the pserudo-week.”

lol. no offence, put this up just cuz i thought it was quite funny.

anyway my timetable is screwed. for 3 days in a week, i have two consecutive lectures at two different faculties (engine fac and science fac actually). which means i’ll be late for the second lecture by 15 minutes if i run there, or even more if i decide to wait for a bus which only comes very occasionally. and to make things worse, i’m the only person i know so far who is having such a weird combi. argh what the hell, i can stink up the whole lecture theater; i’m not the one suffering anyway!!

spent the whole of my day bringing yz and his girlfriend around the school (both from cornell engine, dont pray pray) crashing lectures and comparing cornell engine lectures and nus engine lectures… quite a few differences actually, as we all eventually found out. but we stopped short in deciding which is ultimately better… just as well, as we may have slight difference in opinions. :)

argh what could be more embarrassing than not being able to answer four questions in a row in front of my student… wtf. rgs sets tough physics questions.. not my fault.

watched sophie scholl today. the first movie which i actually cried while watching.. zzz. recent mood probably made me a little emotional. but can’t deny that it’s a really touching show – about a small group of anti-nazi resistance struggling in WW2 period. this is not a group of peace activists we see these days, most of whom are not even involved in the conflict they’re arguing about and probably can’t identify with the anguish on both sides. this is about a girl (and her brother and her friends) who genuinely knew what they were doing, and fought for their beliefs til the end. after watching this, i am truly ashamed at what a coward i am now… and what a coward i will probably ever be. and this is not just apathetic kinda cowardice i’m talking about. really amazing shit….

sigh just hope school (which starts tomorrow) goes by fine for me. after all that has happened, i only wish to have a peaceful uninterrupted nice campus life for the next 4 years ahead – if nothing else can be right.

i got accepted into the chemical science program which i applied, and intend to choose it over a second degree in business, despite it looking less good on cert and having a much higher dropout rate – medicinal science has always been my interest and this is one chance for me to do justice to it.

this is also one of the lowest days of my mood for a long time. after two terrible weeks, i’d think things can only go better. i seriously hope that whatever that has happened 3 years back… will not repeat itself. not at this point of time that it’s gonna ruin my whole fucking life!!

i want to pray, but the problem is that i can’t pray, even though i’m helpless.

heh. i’ve done something that i’m proud of today, and another which made me awfully guilty. firstly, i’ve actually managed to cycle from east coast park to NTU! and back!.. but it took a rather long time due to some map planning.. roughly 12 hours actually.
in the process, however, i injured my friend and now he’s unable to walk at least for a few days. -_-

initially, it was supposed to be a group of 5 for overnight cycling: yizhuang, andre, shiqing, i and a friend of yizhuan. however, this friend of his had some event going on at NTU. but insisted that she wanted to join us on our way back to east coast. as such, we had no choice but to rent 3 single bike, and 1 tandem bike (for 2 persons). took turns to ride the fucked up tandem bike and looked sure as hell like idiots.

it was only when we just east coast park when the friend msg yz that she may not be able to make it due to some event. to be honest i was a little peeved. i mean, as much as you’d like to do something how could you impose such trouble on other people? like making them rent a tandem bike (which is harder to ride than a single bike) and then pilot them cuz you realise you are busy with your event.

but nvm, that aside. on the way we travelled via geylang, bugis, suntec city, clarke quay, orchard, bkt timah, clementi and boon lay. the first part of the journey was long… took us 7 hours to complete, as we (or rather, yizhuan, shiqing and andre LOL) had to refer to maps to make sure that we didn’t get lost.

the first accident came when we were riding rather fast but abruptly reached a dead end of some sorts. i suddenly slowed down without giving advance notice to yizhuan who was behind me. he crashed onto me, smashing his handphone screen in the process. but he was generous enough to reject my offer of paying for it.. sigh. the bike wheel, however, was shifted out of place. and as such, the back brake could not work as it kept getting stuck on the wheel. took us about half an hour to figure that out, after blackening our bodies with the gear oil.

reached NTU at about 5 am. only to realise that yizhuan’s friend has fallen asleep. sent her a paper note slotted under the dorm door and left shortly after.

“whee..!”

by then, we were so tired that we even tried boarding the MRT train with our bikes but got stopped by the station control (wtf were we thinking?!) in the end we decided to follow the mrt tracks and not go back by the original route due to presence of ferocious dogs which caused a number of minor falls.

during that time, i was half asleep while riding and there were several “near-misses”, like slipping onto the road, or into the drain. i guess yizhuan was also pretty shagged, because when we reached commonwealth, he sort of lost concentration, and to make things worse, i destroyed his bicycle brake. as a result, he crashed onto a fence and his leg started bleeding profusely. after several rejections we managed to find a more humane cab driver who agreed to send him back to east coast with the bike stored at the car boot, the remaining 3 of us continued…

then another unfortunate incident happened. shiqing was just commenting, “one man down. if andre is gone, i can’t imagine how both of us are going to make it back to east coast”. that is because andre and yizhuan are the map direction experts.

which was little wonder why we panicked for a while when sq’s prophecy eerily came true. andre’s bicycle tyre became punctured shortly after. he had to take a cab back to east coast as well!!! but not before he instructed us clearly on which route to take.

in the end, it was just me and shiqing.

we took a slight change in route as compared to the first part. instead of going by bukit timah road, we decided to turn into queensway instead. by then we were freaking thirsty, and hungry, but couldn’t stop because we had to reach back east coast by 10 am; if not we would get charged extra. luckily, not much obstacles happened after that, and we managed to arrive just in time. by then, i was super freaking hungry and thirsty.. never felt so good drinking milo ice in a long time.

the whole journey took 12 hours. (10 pm – 10 am) not sure the distance but i think it’s quite far! for a weak person like me, and a novice in cycling, it’s quite impressive.. haha. oh, and when there were just 2 of us left, we didn’t get lost! that’s something to be proud of as well haha!

overall, the overnight cycling is indeed memorable, though i’m not sure if i want to do it again. east coast to ang mo kio is fine, but to NTU and back is quite jialat. *shrug* maybe will get used to it..

hopefully yz recovers fast.. man i feel like a fucker right now.
