Videogameslive is this awesome group of people putting together and scoring soundtracks from various computer / video games and organizing symphonies to perform them in concerts. I had the privilege to attend the videogameslive concert when they were here in singapore. They performed music from halo, kingdom hearts, 70s/80s classic games, guitar hero etc, but these were my favourite segments:

1) Martin Leung - They had a resident pianist, Martin Leung, to play final fantasy medleys, tetris as well as a very fast version of super mario while blindfolded. this was a sight to behold and we all agreed that his hands were so fast it seemed like he was fast-forwarding, but he wasn’t!

2) Metal Gear Solid. This is a very popular song played everytime (I think) VGL gives a concert. Being a huge fan of Harry Gregson Williams’ works, needless to say I enjoyed this a lot.

3) World of Warcraft. As of other segments the performance was epic. But this one ended with Call to Arms which made it 99999 times more epic than the rest!

4) Chrono Trigger / Cross. My favourite segment. This recently added item consists of 600 AD and Frog’s theme from Chrono Trigger, as well as Scars of Time from Chrono Cross. Frog’s theme (one of my fave CT themes) turned out to be the weakest link of the three but I dont blame it on the scoring, it’s probably the sound system or the symphony which resulted in a slightly weaker melodic line being played as compared to the rest. The first was amazing, who could’ve imagined 600 AD would be so, erm, symphonic sounding LOL. The final song was also wonderfully played.

All in all, it was a great show, great performances, marred by some issues which I hope would not prevent VGL from coming again in the future! Firstly, the tickets were only about 80+% sold. Secondly, the publicity is quite bad. I only saw the advert in NUS and in the LAN shop which I always go for left 4 dead outings. Thirdly, there were scores of people leaving the stadium even before the last encore ended (which was quite rude I think but I guess can be understandable since the concert ended at 11 pm, 45 minutes later than the stipulated time). And finally, the merchandise store was situated at a very off place, which I bet few would want to go after the concert since it wasn’t even linked between the stadium and the exit. Hence I don’t think they sold much stuff. Regretfully…

Also, went to the new Butter Factory for the first time last Friday. Wanted to check it out since it’s supposedly stealing customers away from Zouk. It’s actually just an average rnb club that is tremendously crowded. I was actually put off by several inconsiderate clubbers who would hog the bar counter even after they bought the drinks, or blocking the whole long line of moving people behind them when they met their friends and then stopped to CHAT.. like WTH. But yea I’m inclined to think Butter kind of got lucky. The sheep mentality, if everyone is going it must be great so I’ll go there too and that’s why it’s so popular now. And now tio H1N1 cluster, which thankfully wasn’t the day I went. So it isn’t so bad I think..

This week will be busy helping out in junior camp by washing dishes, cleaning kitchen, clearing out the trash etc. After which will be FYP and back to school for driving lessons. Time to start working again..
